YuanFuDao had established the YuanFuDao AI research institute in 2014, making it the first online education company in the industry to establish an AI research institute and a cutting-edge technology laboratory. It consists of four laboratories: speech laboratory, visual laboratory, natural language understanding laboratory, and basic support laboratory. The AI Research Institute currently has nearly 100 members who come from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Microsoft, and many other top institutions in this field. The Institute commits to leading the research, development, and exploration of the application of global advanced technology in education scenarios. In 2018, the MARS data model of YuanFuDao AI research institute had won the first place in the "MS MARCO Machine Reading Comprehension Test.” Microsoft had commented that "for the first time, a model has surpassed the human average in reading comprehension ability". In addition, the model had won one of the world's top AI events, the "Stanford Q&A Data Set”. YuanFuDao has also become the only online education company that has been recognized and praised by the “Queen of the Internet,” Mary Meeker.
